Tips to Prepare for SSC JE General Awareness Section

The Recruitment Examination for SSC JE is an All India Open Competitive Examination for hiring candidates to the designation of Junior Engineer in various department s – Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Contract etc. Many of the applicantswho prepare for SSC JE exams have a lot of apprehension in their mind. Considering this, we at KD Campus have decided to help them in preparing for the General Awareness Section for the upcoming examination.
Before talking about the preparation process of SSC JE General Awareness, let us give you an outline of SSC Junior Engineer Examination Paper I and Paper II. SSC JE Paper I will be conducted online,however, Paper II will be conducted in a designated examination centre.

SSC JE Exam Pattern for Paper I

The Paper I of SSC JE entails multiple choice questions which are for 200 marks. It is a computer based test and the total duration is 2 hours. Following is the breakup of marks for the respective sections –

General Intelligence and Reasoning—50
General Awareness—50

• Part A- General Engineering (Civil and Structural) or
• Part B- General Engineering (Electrical) or
• Part C- General Engineering (Mechanical)
—100

Each question is of 1 mark and for every wrong answer, there will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks.Candidates have the option of choosing from Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering stream in General Engineering section.
Candidates who clear Paper I are eligible for Paper II.

SSC JE Exam Pattern for Paper II

The Paper II consists of subjective questions and is of 300 marks. Depending on their area of interest, the candidates have the liberty to choose subjects/sections.

• There will be a total of three subjects- Civil & Structural OR Electrical OR Mechanical Engineering. The candidates will have to appear for either of the subjects.
• The total duration for Paper II will be 2 hours.
• Candidates are permitted to carry their own Slide–Ruler, Calculator, Logarithm Tables and Steam Table for Paper-II.

After qualifying both the papers, a candidate will be eligible for the merit list.

Let us now talk about the SSC JE General Awareness preparation section.

SSC JE General Awareness Section: Important Topics
For SSC Junior Engineer Examination, General Awareness Section has a very significant part, mostly because it is a high scoring exam. A candidate who is well prepared will take less than 10seconds to answer each question in this section.
General Awareness Section of the SSC JE is different fromBanking and Insurance Examination. In noticeable Banking and Insurance Exams, General Awareness Section is concentrated on Current Affairs,although, in the case of SSC JE, a lot of questions will be related to Static General Knowledge.

SSC JE will have 50 questions which will be of 1 mark each and will cover various topics from the following:

1. Indian History
2. Indian Polity
3. Geography
4. Indian Economy
5. Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
6. Miscellaneous
Each topic will have nearly 5-6 questions except the miscellaneous segment. General Science is likely to have 10-15 questions and Biology is the main subject/topic that will be covered.

SSC JE – General Awareness: Tips to remember

While you get ready for the forthcoming SSC JE General Awareness Section, here are a few imperative points to understand and follow:

• To get maximum help in GK preparation, make sure to read at least one newspaper daily. This will also prepare you for English section.
• Answer the Question Paper of Last Year’s SSC JE because it will help you gauge the difficulty level of questions under each section of the paper.
• Keep a close eye on at least one website for Daily Updates on GK and Current affairs.
• Questions asked in SSC JE are slightly easy and to the point unlike UPSC Civil Services Exam. Hence, even with a fundamental knowledge you can score good marks.
• While analysing preceding years’ question papers, it has been observed that the pattern of most questions is repeated. The same questions are asked in many different ways. In this instance,answering previous year’s question paper would be helpful.
• Try to devote some time for reviewing and revising what you’ve learned.
